I can finally talk!!! My lips are no longer fully sealed.

I am extremely excited about the features that iBooks 2 brings to the table. I have always believed that the iPad would be a game changer for education. It has been obvious from the beginning that due to the way that interactive media is changing our methods of communication, our methods of learning, and educating need to follow suit. The iPad brought this potential and is making great headway in the realms of music and art. However, until now, publishing really hasn’t changed that much as a result of this wonderful device.

Don’t get me wrong I loved using iBooks in some of my college courses to manage my textbooks. It definitely delivered on its promises, but it wasn’t ever quite the experience that you dream of when you think of digital publishing.

I have been a player in the publishing of a few books to amazon, iBooks, and other various digital book stores (for other authors) and the process is long and grueling. It takes a lot of formatting, and regardless of what anybody tells you, markup (yes i mean code) to get your book looking halfway decent.

I just spent the last two hours playing with iBooks Author, Apple’s new digital book creation tool. And I’m blown away. The process could not be simplified any more than it is. Its possible to drop in media and widgets as simply as dragging a video file into the book, without sacrificing the ability to add advanced interactive widgets as well.

I am really excited. Really excited about where this is headed, not only for large publishers but for homemade books and materials as well.

Thats all. I just couldn’t say nothing.

@jslo5 wanted to know some information about Disneyland while we were there last night. I decided to make a quick poster for her about some of the info that I could dig up. (click for the full res image)

iamwill: Dieter Rams' ten principles of "good design"

wleingang:

Good design:

  • Is innovative - The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.

    my code – a tattoo

my friend aubry recently got a tattoo. she asked me to write a gandhi quote using objective-c. this is how it turned out.

@interface you: Person {

NSString *name;
theChangeYouWantToSee *typeOfChange;

}

- (theChangeYouWantToSee*)be;

@end

    { the mission statement }

    i am not a writer. this is where i will make an attempt to formulate my thoughts into something that will be useful. giving praise to great theory, and criticism toward poor implementation. it is a place to log notes for myself, for you to enjoy. it is about code, about startups, projects, and industry leaders. quick thoughts, and narratives. alas, it will be infrequent… for i am not a writer.
